My 6 year old Rover has suddenly developed this fault. When driving along a clicking noise comes from the glove box area and the car stops. The oil light flashes a few times and after a few minutes the car will restart. My . local garage checked it out and also an auto electrician, they both had the car for a few days. When they had it out on the road the car did stop , unfortunately when linked to the computers it didn't. Has anyone had the same problem and how did you overcome it. If anything the problem seems to occur when the engine is cold .. Regards Rene,,

Find a rover specialist with a full T4 kit who knows how to use it, as with T4 it is also capable of wiring checks.

However there is a fuel pump relay which also powers the ecu in the engine bay area on the passenger side & woinder whether thats what you can hear clicking.

The ECU & wiring in the plenum chamber needs checking for possible water ingress, look for even old water tide marks arounf the ECU as water can build up and penetrate the loom long term and cause problems.

Hopefully yours may just be a bad earth or faulty relay or a fuel pump drawing to much current causing the relay to overheat!

Find someone who knows these cars or it will be a money pit

Good advice from injection doc, have you ever cleaned the plenium out if not you have probable got a ECU fault as described. This plenium on the left hand side below all the plastic directly in front of the windscreen has a drain underneath which becomes blocked it then fills with water and fries the ecu.It can be cured by dismantling and cleaning out the drain and then a hole made in the top cover directly above the drain which you can put a steel rod down it and clean it every few weeks. If you have fried the ecu they are like rocking horse manure to get at a reasonable price. If you are in the north of england then you need someone like Clemo of Cleckheaton 200meters from the m62/m606 junction.
