Nissan Micra - Spare parts - Dwight Van Driver

The last Nissan Micra came of the assembly line at Sundersland last night.

The question is how long do they carry on making spares?

Thought that under EU legislation car makers are obliged to carry spares for something like a five year period

The Micra is a pretty common car so if I can still easily get new Vauxhall spares for a 22 year Cavalier I doubt you will have trouble with a Nissan.

Spares availability for any car will vary with many factors. BIG spare parts (Complete Bodyshell replacement) might be measured in months rather than years. Body panels will be years and in any case on popular cars (such as Micra) 3rd parties will make "lookie likie" bits for may be 10+ years.

On mechanical / electrical parts the timescales are may be 30 years+ as the car may cease production but "2010 models" can include parts that were used in the "1999 model"

Parts for early 20 year old Peugeot 106s are still freely available- even from dealers (although some to order).

.History suggests after 20 years convoluted engine hoses may become a problem on older cars as the manufacturing volumes required make them uneconomic...

(But it's usually possible to bodge a respectable replacement)
