Peugeot 309 - Deisel leak - 309

Hi, I am new to this site and please excuse me if I do not write in perefct english as i come from Malta. I have a massive deisel leak which is coming from behind the pulley which is situated behind the fornt right wheel. It only leaks when the engine is started. Is this a specialist job or can I repeir myself? and what tolls would i need? Thanks in advance

The diesel fuel injection pump has an integral lift pump which draws fuel from the tank and through the filter, so there's no possibility that the leak is on the fuel supply side as the pump would draw air and not fuel. More likely it's leaking from the injection pump body itself, or the fuel return pipe to the tank as you say it only leaks when the engine's running. If it's an injector pipe broken the engine would be misfiring. Repairing an injection pump is definitely not a do-it-yourself job and will have to refer it to a specialist.....

Cheers mate,

I think you hit the jackpot, as I looked at the leak again today and although i cannot see the exact spot from were the leak is coming, the injection pump body is fitted exactly on top of the pulley. so i guess it is leaking from there and over the back of the pulley giving the impression that it is the pulley which is leaking.

will take to specialist tomorrow.

Thanks again

In that case it sounds like a shaft seal leaking in the pump body. Definitely a specialist job.....
