VW Golf 2001 se TDI Auto - Should I sell My VW GOLF - Baker

My car has 70000 miles on the clock, full VW service History and I have continued the VW warrantee each year . I am the second owner.

Condition good but it will need a new cambelt next year, and full service . It is due now for lubrication service and also air con service. The cellulose is peeling in places on the paint finish. It will also need new tyres next year.Warranty for next year £350

So about £1700 expenditure in next 12 months.

I have been offered ann 2008 TDI Auto Match golf by a main dealer 26000 miles for 11995. I have had very good service fron this dealer over a period of time.

IT will have VW warranty etc. One Owner.

Should I change the exisitng car or try and keep it until it is worth nothing and has 125,000 miles on the clock VW will not extend warranty beyond 100000 miles!!

My wife does all the driving as my eyesight has been damaged by a stroke and I am retired. She will not contemplate any other make of car it has to be a TDI Golf Auto!!

This will be the last car like this that we can afford to buy and hope to keep it for a number of years.

Any advice how much should I try and get for my car in part exchange[ I know glassis Guide and Parkers latest prices ]and what should I try and negotiate on the price of the 2008 Golf Match TDI Auto? Or put the two together how much should I pay.

Should I change at all Your help and advice would be very welcome Thank you

It's down to you, if the car has historically been reliable, I would take a chance and not bother with the VW warranty. The money saved would pay for the servicing, and take it to a local independant garage. A shot of clearcoat on the paint won't be expensive. You will not lose much money now on the car running it a few years more. The dealer will always have good deals in the future. If your missus is happy with the car keep it. These cars will run to a big mileage well beyond 125000, just keep it well serviced (outwith main dealer-too expensive for labour charges). If you want to give it a treat get it a valet.
