Peugeot 406 - Overheating when towing - shelly b

Hi I have a peugeot 406 2 litre HDI Deisel estate on a 51 plate and when we tow our caravan it overheats and we end up with the heating on full and windows down, I have towed this caravan before with a vectra and had no problems can you suggest what i can do to stop the overheating

The radiator is clogged up,faulty thermostat,faulty cooling fan,too large a caravan.

When towing does the temperature go into the red?The fan should cut in about 90c.If the engine overheats ie in the red ,i would stop the car for about ten minutes leave the engine running and the heater on max.Could be the thermostate is not opening fully.Which has been mentioned maybe a new theormostate needed.

yes the tempeture goes into the red and it does go down when heating is on full so will have a look at a new thermostat Thank you for the help
