After a short break in the UK and all the aggressive driving and speed cameras at every turn, it's great to be back in Spain and return to the 'normality' of driving here.

Tonight for example, I was cheerfully overtaken...

...whilst travelling on a steep uphill gradient...

...on a blind bend...

...by a 4x4...

...towing a boat!!

Anyone care to beat that??

Hello Sid nice to be back in Spain to the sunny climes.Agressive driving here?Camaras they are there for your safety they keep telling me.How did the drive go back to spain no hassle on the auto routes?.On a blind bend with a boat sounds exciting.

Plenty to beat it, but having been to India a few times I'm probably at an unfair advantage!

Motorbike with 4 up overtaking a cycle. Motorcycle is being overtaken by a tut-tut, tut tut has a Hindustan Ambassador taxi overtaking it, we are in a fully loaded local bus (passengers on roof etc) and we begin to take the taxi, we are half on the right hand carriageway, half on the dusty kerb. Heading towards us is a wagon being overtaken by a van!

We all survived!

Not overseas but I remember travelling on a beautifully restored vintage Bedford VAL coach from the 1960's - the type with the two front axles and one rear - the so-called 'Chinese 6' layout.

Anyway, going up a winding hill with double white lines on the A350 near Shaftesbury in this coach - overtaken by a VW Golf GTI whose driver was talking on a hand-held mobile - double white lines, remember - and another car rapidly approaching from the opposite direction.

Ah, okay, I thought each item was a separate incident, and wondered what the big deal was. You were overtaken on a blind bend going uphill, by a 4x4 towing a boat. Impressive.

I recall being driven from Rome to Calabria in southern Italy by an Italian in a small Italian car. We went along the side of mountains, with a steep drop on one side, at night, with heavy fog, at high speed, with a driver whose eyes looked in different directions. The Austrian in the back seat next to me was screaming. I was terrified. Latin types seem to have a more relaxed approach to life.

Erm, Sid,

I wondered about this "spanish practise" until I sussed that the Spanish Drivers ABSOLUTLY obey the centre line markings so if the side of the road you are on is hatched & tother side is solid, hey overtake on a bend , there will NOT be an overtaking car comin in the other direction and there is plenty of width or room for three veh abreast.

From my limited observations in the Spanish mountains.

Cheers
