VAG PD engine - VAG fuel additive, where to by? - Pluke

Was having a look thought the forum. And found out about VAG's own fuel additive.

I have a PD130 and wanting to give the VAG additive a try.

So just wondering where i can buy this from?

If it were mine I wouldn`t use it. Just regular pump diesel.

After years of mostly VaG diesel driving and the trial of numerous additives, I am convinced that all that is needed is a good hard flog down the motorway at reasonable intervals to keep things running okay. Additives might hjave their place in old or poorly maintaned cars that only do very short journeys, but I am now a sceptic.

Same here decent fuel i use the higher octane fuel and a good clear out on the motorway .

I really wouldn't advise using a high octane fuel in your engine.

According to the US VAG forums, the VAG-approved additive is Stanadyne Performance Formula.

I did obtain and try a bottle of this stuff (lasts 5-6 tankfuls) in my own PD130 B5.5 Passat (owned from new) and ..... no measurable difference in performance or economy.

The same with all the super-diesels, none made ANY measurable difference in performance or economy -- in that particular car. I often THOUGHT I felt a difference, but this was not reflected in the figures at the pumps.

Having had the Passat for over 5 years and 60+K miles, it never seemed to mind what fuel it was given. It just liked a weekly clear-out by revving to 4,000 through the gears.

Hello,The reason i buy the higher octane fuel 98 not for performance but hopefully for the quality running a cleaner engine.A car is a expensive item and either filters oil and petrol i want the best quality while i can still afford it.

Just trying to rule out any possible misdirection for those who may have come across this post and, perhaps, wanted to give their engine a healthier regime.
The thread was about additives for a PD engine, a diesel unit.

And diesel fuel quality is quoted in CETANE not OCTANE.

That was kind of my point, and it's not quality related, just the cetane number ie the amount of cetane present, as a percentage.

Ok then Cetane not Octane,I use the Bp Premium Ultimate Diesel for what its worth.Engine works fine sounds nice and i am happy with it.
