CITROEN C5 Diesel - CITROEN C5 PARTICLE FILTER - rotax18

Looking at buying a secondhand C5.

Citroen main dealer quotes a PARTICLE FILTER SERVICE every 50,000 miles at a cost of GBP 890.

I found an `emulator/bypass device` advertised on eBay and wondered if anyone has experience trying similar and how it works. IF the device is bypassed is it SAFE ? like no increased pollution to the cabin ?

Also is it possible to DIY the particle filter in terms of cleaning / burning off the soot ...a Tandoori oven only goes to 380 C :-( but maybe a welding torch ?? I have heard you can JETWASH them ! Then where to source the special oils. / any special procedure to replenish ?

I am waiting on 2 Citroen Service discs purchased to look at processes involved but would be nice to glean some general knowledge on what seems a rather expensive item.

The only issue when removing the DPF is the soot test during the MOT, but if you get the car nice and warm beforehand it should get through.

As for cleaining, jetwashing will only clean the outside, and to clean it completely the whole filter element must be heated to around 400°C for around 8 hours followed by pneumatic extraction of the ash. There are companies around that do it for around £250.

just had a Merc C220cdi with a blocked DPMF and had no power, removed & jet washed backwards, loads of carp came out & went like a rocket afterwards & no more going into limp mode

If you do a search on this site for ' eolys ' you will find all the information you will need.

MOT smoke test won't be a problem as the pass criteria is the same for vehicles with or without a DPF.

Your VIN number will indicate if you have the "filtre à particules" (FAP) or not.

If you are VAT registered you can sign up to Citroën Service - http://service.citroen.com Alternatively I can look it up for you, given your VIN number. Does this forum have PM?

(The discs you have are not easy to install as they are probably a backup from a garage. It's likely you will have to spoof the MAC address of your network card and then find they're out of date, though for a C5 I it should be OK)
