I got my 'new' Rio 1.5 diesel a week ago, it is 13 months old with 3000 in the clock, it has only been used as a shopper.
I drove it home with just under half a tank in and only did 100 miles with it!! I then read this forum and took it out, gave it some welly and have since done two tests where I fill it up, drive either 50-100 miles, then fill up again and calculate the mpg. I'me very pleased to report that even one a commuting run it does 50+ mpg!! Could the earlier low mpg be to do with the fact that the car has never probably been driven, if it has only ever pootled to the shops and back?
On Fri night I filled it to the brim, I put so much in I could see the fuel at the top of fuel pipe. I then drove home and parked it on my drive, which it at a slight angle so that the front of the car is higher than the rear. On Sat it had leaked fuel onto the drive, it looked like it came from a pipe near the rear axel, a pipe covered with this foam sleeve. I cleaned it up, wiped it all clean, and it has remained dry since, and no more stains on the drive.
I read somewhere that if you fill up to the brim and the park with the rear of the car lower than the nose, this can happen. Is this true? Or do I need to give hell at the dealership next week?
Otherwise the car is great, seems to do good mpg and goes like s*** from a shovel if asked!!
Thank you.
