I need to know if the loss of water (radiator hose) can damage cylinder head?

Thanks

If the water gets sufficiently low that it boils it can.

Thanks for your reply, that is exactly what did happen. With reference to my 1st post on here, when my car died on me a few weeks ago, 3/4 into my journey, despite having topped up water prior to journey.

The breakdown service came out and showed me the hose that runs from the radiator, it had popped off, therefore causing the loss of water.

He also showed me the end of the hose that had come off, the jublie clip that was supposed to hold it in position was half way down the hose, therefore, it hadn't been put on correctly in the first place. It was easy to see the clip had been there a while as it was pretty tight on the hose and a little rusty looking.

I bought the car less than 6 months ago from Vauxhall, contacted the mechanic who was/is working on it. I mentioned the hose and clip and he told me, it doesn't really matter where on the hose the clip is put.

Well, excuse me, I may have been born at night, but it certainly wasn't last night. Surely it matters where the clip is put?

I am still awaiting an assessor to come look at it

Providing its somewhere over the pipe its clamping, it doesn't, but halfway down the hose it won't do a lot of good.

It looks like you had a small leak in the cooling system if you had to top it up in the first place & small leaks usually develop into bigger ones.

Once an engine looses coolant & starts to boil it builds up far more pressure inside than normal & will push off a pipe that is not 100% tight.

So the large pipe that was off may not have been the cause of the problem, just a symptom.

Hopefully the garage will give the cooling system a thorough going over once they have repaired the engine.

oops an error on my part, apparently, according to my partner, the water wasn't topped up, it didn't need it as it was full.

The pipe wasn't 100% tight given there was nothing there to hold it in place.

As of today, nearly 2 months later, I still haven't got my car back as they found 2 other problems, water had rusted the components/terminals (?) After putting in a reconditioned cylinder head (I think it's a re con one) the car wouldn't start.

I had a call from them today asking if I had the security code (?) seems they need it to start the car. I have no idea what or where the security code is.

And so it continues......

Good news, code was found, car will be road tested and cleaned, I should have it back tomorrow, at no cost to me, yayaa :)

OMG just had a thought, will be scared to drive it now in case something else happens!!
