Buying a used car ... the dealer seems dodgy - starfield

Hi All,

it seems i am getting a reasonably good asking price for a car i am looking to buy.

The problem seems to be the dealer. On the phone he says he is in the trade and he sells cars from his house. Is that dodgy?

What do i need to know about the dealer and the car should i decide to go ahead with the purchase.

If you aren't confident in him, then take your business elsewhere. Remember, if a deal looks to good to be true, then chances are it is too good to be true...

Realy speaking since I was a lad in the 70's there is a huge amount of mechanisms in place to prevent the purchase of a tyruly dodgy motor, eg HPI checks, and the ability in a lot of cases to check service histories etc. However dodgy motors do still slip ,through the net, so if you're uncomfortable best to err on the safe side.

Remember dodgy and rough cars go with dodgy and rough people !

If he is a dealer and registered as such then regardless of whether he trades from home or from Buckingham palace then you are cover by the sale of goods act and it gives you a lot more protection than buying privately if it all goes wrong.
