MINI Countryman - Text & Twits on new Mini! - Berisford

I am alarmed to read in a short road test that the new crossover Mini has a Text message / Twitter screen built into the dash so that owners can read 'em whilst they drive!

Your average text/twit user can be seen in any High Street walking along without any regard for those around 'em so what's their driving going to be like?

As a motorcyclist I often pass people (mainly girls/young women) with a mobile glued to their hand and the ones that are busy texting often give themselves away by their driving style.

I'm in favour of the death penalty for anyone texting whilst driving.

1) I hope there is an interlock which will disable that screen while the engine is switched on!

2) I rather suspect that people who text while driving will get the death penalty anyway.

I certainly agree with the death penalty syndrome, but.......

I've looked at a few online reviews of the Countryman and I can't see any reference to this feature (no doubt the marketing types will call it something like a "Lifestyle Addition")

Is it actually in the view of the driver, or is it just for passengers in the same way that you can get TV screens built into seat backs

Although it could look impressive in a nerdy kind of way if it was a head-up display like on fighter planes
