Ford Focus - Good cheap fault code reader? - cruz

Can anyone recommend a cheap code scanner that will save me having to pay diagnostic charges?

I have seen a few on ebay that are hand held or laptop based like the T40, U480 or Elm327 or should I get one that's slightly more expensive like a Maxiscan MS509
