Assuming you have a decent set of plugs in and the car runs okay when not idling, have you also cleaned (and adjusted if necessary) the idle control valve, throttle body, and associated breathers there and on the rocker cover? The throttle body has a pinhole sized breather that should be clean but there are larger breathers on the rocker cover also. From there you might also like to check the oxygen sensor in the exhaust and coil pack, but do the cheap stuff first like the idle control valve clean which should be done thoroughly not just a squirt with cleaner (one garage charged me £70 for a squirt of carb cleaner and didn't clean the TB etc properly at all, as I found out when I took it all apart myself later). The rocker cover itself has a breather tube running through it. If you take the rocker cover off to clean it in anti-gunk solution, be ready with a new gasket or you will likely get oil leaks (about a fiver).
The coil pack can be contributory, but if the car does not hesitate noticably when you press the pedal to move off from stationary then I would assume it isn't the coil pack.
It can also be a faulty camshaft sensor (about £15) or problem with the airflow meter.
I've probably forgotten a few it could be.
As always, tackle the cheap stuff first such as the clean up, clean breathers and TB will do no harm and probably even improve MPG a little.
