Hello!
I have a real problem and don’t quiet know what to do. I own a 1999 Isuzu trooper which until the middle of November I was very pleased with. I purchased the car privately in February 2009, ran it until the second week in November last year with out a problem.
The Truck went in for an MOT on the 11 November 2009, failed on a fuel leak.
Advised by A M Philips Conon Bridge, Dingwall that there was an outstanding recall due for the injectors.
12 November Truck in to Conon Bridge Injectors replaced free of charge.
14 November passed MOT
16 Dec another fuel leak, dropping fuel form engine badly, back to Conon Bridge. Steel feed to rail Transfer/banjo connection cracked and extension tube slack. Pipe was removed, resealed extension tube new copper washer fitted and new fuel pipe fitted, engine steam cleaned, engine ram up to temp and rechecked, all ok. Charged £243.25 for work carried out without my permission. Raised issue that I did not give my permission for the work to be carried out, was told that they would remove the pipes and give my truck back in its original state.
About the 7 January Truck leaking diesel again from the same place, truck back to A M Philips, they hadn’t tightened the pipe properly.
26 February Truck broke down in Inverurie Aberdeenshire, Loss of power and the truck was shaking badly. Into garage WJ Rattray, Inverurie, bonnet lifted first thing he noticed was that the wiring loom for the Injectors was not tied down properly, new timing belt fitted, truck would not start, he thought it was to do with injectors, didn’t want to touch them with recall only just been done.
28 February Truck moved to Airylea Motors Aberdeen. Diesel Injector specialists, Diagnostic check carried out, fault with injectors, advised to put back to an Isuzu dealership charged £200.
Beginning March Truck moved to A M Philips Aberdeen. Injectors 1 & 3 not working, injector sleeves badly fitted causing diesel to leak into the sump.
16 March truck collected, didn’t seem right when I drove it back from Aberdeen to Inverness (100miles).
Truck left for a couple of hours, started shook violently then cut out, started wouldn’t rev with foot flat to floor, then wouldn’t start at all.
Phoned A M Philips, blamed time belt. Troopers will not start if timing is wrong therefore it would not have started in Aberdeen. A M Philips advised to call AA, they checked truck and thought that there was nothing mechanical wrong with the truck and that it was a fault due to the work just carried out.
New brakes fitted and replaced corroded fuel pipes ran ok for half an hour truck switched off wouldn’t re start. ( in garage in Inverness)
30 March Truck back to A M Philips Conon Bridge. Phoned Dave Watson Workshop Manager on a weekly basis up to the 23 April, bear with me I am working on it! Dropping the Diesel tank to check pipes above it, bare with me I am working on it! I was informed that an Isuzu rep would be with them on the 27 April. Advised by Dave Watson to phone IM (Isuzu), Phoned IM spoke to Phil Camwell, was appalled when I explained the above. Dave Badder Technical Manager from Isuzu made a trip up to Conon Bridge to see what was wrong with A M Philips, He looked at my truck he felt it needed a new diesel tank! Told him that I had been told the Diesel tank had been looked at already? Mike MacDonald from A M Philips quoted me £700-800 to supply and fit a new diesel tank. I have since found out that was to replace all the fuel pipes, bearing in mind I had these pipes replaced in Inverness when I had the brakes replaced. The cost of a new is £234 + Vat for an Isuzu tank quoted by Isuzu and according to Isuzu the job should take no longer than 2hrs?? I can't get my money back from Conon Bridge. Aberdeen will not give me written proof that the injectors failed due to them not being fitted properly both myself and my partner saw the original job card which stated that the sleeves were badly fitted which had caused hte injectors to fail. What do I do?
