SEAT Ibiza II 1.4 VW AEX engine - Noisy tappets & engine vibrates with aircon - seatinspain

Hi, i have a LHD Seat ibiza and i live in spain. It has a VW 1.4 AEX engine.

The tappets are noisy. Any idea if they will cure themselves with it being hydraulic tappets or is replacement only option? (its an old car dont want to spend out on it), drives ok i guess though.Speedo reads 129,000 ms (80k miles) but based on the crook i bought it off, it6s prob false.

plus when the aircon is on the car struggles. Aircon just been re gassed too and recon pump fitted. When the aircon is being used around town, as soon as you turn a corner, so the PAS is being used at the same time as the aircon pump, the car starts to vibrate quite badly, and the engine struggles, almmost as if it is running ony 3 cyclinders only.

Turn aircon off, noise and vinraltions tops.

help!!!!

any ideas?

Have you tried clean oil (several oil flushes) and Oil treatment?? this cleared my knocking hydralic tappits on my Astra

So why did you buy the car of a "crook" without getting its history checked 1st?, there are plenty of Ibiza'a for sale.

Could be the ECU is not compensating for the addtional Engine power, to power these items? - did you get any warrany with the car from whom you bought it from?

hi. Why did i buy a car off a crook? Didnt know he was a crook at the time! Buying a car in spain is very different than buying in the uk, and cars are about 3 times the price here too!

so , no, no warranty at all on the car.

And the ecu? Well, is that easy to replace with 2nd hand one or is "take car to dealer" type scenario do you think?

and oil flushes? Well just had oil changed, but dont think they flushed it though

1 st of all your tappets.

I would try having the oil flushed, clean oil and some doses of treatment – this cleared the problem on my Astra but I was advised that if it didn’t then I would be looking at a new camshaft set or the Hydraulic Valve lifters replaced.

2 nd your PAS and Aircon

I might be wrong but it sounds like the ECU is not compensating for the load placed on the engine when using these ancillaries you will need to find a Seat Dealer or good independent garage who can diagnose the problem for you.

thanks for the info.

Looked at the state of spark plugs last night and they ends indicated that the car is being starved of fuel, so the extra load with using the aircon and the PAS seems to point to fuel starvation. Going to try a fuel additive to see if it helps, but any idea on how the mixture can bu made a bit richer?

other than that i am destined to drive on straight roads only!

I will be taking my car to the SEAt dealer in Benisano, near where i live, hopefully they will sort it but from what i have read, i think it is faulty sensor, well thats the misfiring anyway, i dont know if their computer can sort the noisy tappets out also as they are hydraulic and cant be adjusted.

Any idea if an ECU reset will cure noisy tappets when the car is warm?
