Astra G 1.4 16v 2001 - astra cooling problem - astra87

hi guys, been up and down all day today in this terrible heat! anyway on my last journey down the motorway, i got a missfire, didnt think anything else of it until i looked at the temperature gauge which was reading 0!! so the car carried on as normal misfiring a bit but with no temperature, then the needle started going up and down for a bit but right down the bottom, 5 mins later everything is all fine, temperature gauge returns to normal, no coolant loss, misfires or anything, ive been told its more than likely the coolant temperature sensor reading faulty causing the engine to misfuel etc? Many thanks

What you have been told is probably quite correct but if the misfiring occurs at the same time as the temp gauge misreads you could have an electrical fault..

a new coolant sensor cured the problem, i was told by a mechanic that the sensor not only provides the temp gauge but also tells the ecu how hot the engine is which in turn causes the overfueling as the ecu thinks the engine is cold

makes sense now! glad its sorted though
