Rover 220 Coupe N Reg 96 2.0L DOHC Engine
Problem:
Engine cuts out when the car is in traffic (idling for long time after long runs) and won't idle until temperature under the hood drops. The engine seems very hot but gauge doesn't indicate hot.
I've tried disconnecting the following to determine a problem:
Lambda Sensor
ATS
CTS
TPS
Idle control stepper motor
Changed fuel relay, HT Coil, rotor arm and lead to distributor.
Rover dealer had the car for a week and found no problem but tightened an earth connection. Problem returned the next hot day.
Really stratching my head now and would appreciate any help.

When it cuts out, is it easy to restart or do you have to churn away on starter?
Sounds like possibly fuel vaporisation brought on by high underbonnet temperatures. If so, I would expect restarting problems. (had similar problems once: had to put extra shielding on exhaust system.)

Once it goes then it won't idle until the temperature under the bonnet has returned to a much cooler level.
What did you use as shielding and where to? Metal sheild over the exhaust manifold?
I thought the common fuel line is at the rear of the engine block?

My trouble was a different car..
Metal shield over exhaust

Check the fuel pressure.
