Ford Focus - speedo problem - kay10

I just got a ford focus 1.8 petrol 1999 T reg which is runing perfect but the only problem i having is with the speedometer, it drops dead at any speed and it then comes back to life after couple of minutes, this is frustrating for me as I am a new driver.

Please any advice will be highly appreciated.

common problem, most likely is the speed sensor. not hard to fix, i did mine a while ago on my old focus. plenty of info on here if you search the forums.

The speed sensor costs around £35 from the ford dealer.

The speed sensor is cheap enough but the labour will cost you a fair bit as often they have to take the gearbox out. If you need a new clutch then now might be a good time to get both sorted!
