Disclosing defects while car under warranty. - jmajor

Suggestions from within the motor trade that a certain manufacturer is carrying out audits and financially penalising dealers who innocently point out to customers any defects they have come accross during routine maintenance and inspection.

This is very alarming as the vehicles are still under warranty but the manufacturer,it would appear, are acting with total disregard to their customers and are putting lives at risk by discouraging dealers from highlighting potential flaws and defective components.

Are they breaking the law?

The garage would have a duty of car to indicate any defects they spotted which may pose a safety risk. Were they to be financially penalised for doing so by association with a delaership then it would be a matter for Trading Standards and may be subject to competition legislation. I would be interested in more details.
