Hi everyone
Im having some trouble with my clio. For a few weeks now its been misfiring badly. It was misfiring a while ago, but was solved with new plug leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. About 3 weeks ago, the misfire returned.
Its not consistent though, which is confusing. Sometimes it will run fine, but then others it will bog down when accelerating, mostly when in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. I dont suspect that the gear its in has any relevance (?), though i do suspect the gearbox oil may be low. It also (usually) idles erratically, revs will drop to around 700 before the computer (i presume) bumps it back up to 1200. It then repeats, and sounds very much like the engine is about to die.
Ive recently done an oil change, changed the air filter and fuel filter, which has improved it EVER so slightly, but its still doing it. I took the plugs out to check the gaps and they are all ok, though i did notice that the porcelain centre of all of the plugs were light brown/white, which as far as i know is ideal, so all look fine, though they could maybe do with a change. I did try pulling the plug leads off whilst the engine was running but disconnecting each spark plug led to a similar drop in engine speed, so i assume they are all ok.
So suggestions so far include TDC sensor and ICV sensor. Could either of these realistically be the problem? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Steve
