It emerges that there is a known software problem with the Hyundai i30 tuner. The ad hoc traffic announcements disappeared from mine and I had a new one fitted under warranty this morning. It works, but the wavebands have been changed to FM1, FM2, FMA, AM and AMA i.e. there is no longwave now.

I've heard of this as well.

I don't know how any manufacturer, Hyundai of all would get a radio wrong -- a part of the wider Hyundai company builds the bloomin' things!

Why manufacturers can't build a cheap option where the radio isn't installed I'm not sure -- it's the first thing half of all owners change anyway.

like everything else in this country its distorted by the fleet market, if private buyers were in the majority specs would be rather different, as it is makers need to satisfy a fleet market where end users often have no ability to upspec so standard specs are more sensitive to some things like this

Take it back to the dealer and ask for an EU spec. radio to be fitted-sounds like an Asia spec. radio has been fitted. There was a time in the past when most Jap cars came into the country with similar radios and all had to be changed at the dealers.

I have a similar problem and have been back to the garage several time and who are now looking in to it. There was an intermittent signal failure, not an electrical problem, which was driving me round the bend on my long journey each day. By accident I discovered that with the traffic announcement turned off the problem disappeared and as soon as it was turned on the problem returned. This was after the radio had been changed, The garage hasn't found a solution yet but perhaps it is that only hyundai can fix the problem with new software. I am optimistic that one day this problem will be resolved. Perhaps some lucky person out their has some good news.

Thanks - I will try out cancelling the tA on mine - as I think the radio has poor reception with intermittant breaks in sound.

There some threads about i30 radios on i30ownersclub forum http://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php

With regard to the no long wave, see if the AM position tunes it. Does on some radios.

Actually it is quite illogical referring to a waveband by the modulation method. Amplitude Modulation is used on long, medium, and most shortwave broadcast stations although Digital Radio Mondiale is now used by a few.

Today I had my i30 radio changed, again!, and it might be too early to say but i'm optimistic that it will now work ok and that I can leave the ta turned on and still get good reception.

Another problem cropped up with the wheel pressure sensors. I thought I had a slow puncture but it turned out to be the sensor valve leaking. The Hyundai garage tried to blame me for this saying I had disturbed the rubber washer on the seal !!! After a long discussion they have agreed to change the seals at their cost ( I had discovered a second wheel leaking air through the rubber seal on the sensor). Be warned, when they leak air, it leaks very quickly and could be dangerous. If you have recently had any tyres changed and the garage have disturbed this rubber washer then you may have problems. Hyundai have only recently warned their dealerships about this but it has not been passed on to the customer.
