Hi

Can anyone give me advice about my remote locking please?

I have a 1998 Ford Modeo Diesel that has remote locking using a push-button key..This suddenly packed in and I naturally thought that it was the batteries that wanted changing in the key..( as happened a couple of years ago ) ...which I have now done.Unfortunately it still doesn`t work.

How can I prove whether it is the key or the car that is faulty?

Does anything need "reprogramming to make it work again?

Can anyone explain in layman`s terms how this remote system works?

If it is the key that is faulty , how do I obtain a new one...presumably from the local Ford dealer....and what sort of price is it?

note: The only other key that I posess for this car is "Red" in colour and I was told that this is essential in order to obtain a replacement key.

I forgot to let everyone know what the very CHEAP cure was to my "remote locking problem.

After spending hours surfing the internet looking for advice, trying at least 6 different ways of programming the key etc, I decided to try the "reboot" method that seems to cure most computer faults ( ie switch off then on again !!)

Disconnecting the car battery for 10 minutes CURED the problem !!

( The only extra needed was the security code to reprogramme the radio )

Worth remembering , especially as the local Ford dealer wanted £60 plus VAT MINIMUM to sort it out , saying that it would probably need "re-programming " as this was a common cause
