Peugeot 406 Hdi 2.2 - Min level additive gasoil alarm - PugHater
Hi there,

I was wondering if someone could help me fix this issue. When I start the
car I get 2-3 alarms, first one is 'Fuel cap open', the 2nd one is 'Min
level additive gasoil' and the third one which appears randomly is
something along the lines of 'Clean Diesel Filter'.

Someone I know recommended me a mechanic, he said he replaced the fuel
tank but this did resolve the 1st alarm, He also got the additive and
replaced it & put in a new filter but that also didn't work even though we
drove the car constantly at 60 mph for 20 mins (apparently that should
regenerated the FAP and clear the alarm). I have paid around £280 but no
results. Only one result is the car doesn't go into limp mode but im
still worried that will soon come back.... I have now given up, parked the
car on the drive and left it there - this is my last resort for help!!
Can someone please help me with this problem or recommend people who
really know what they are doing!! (P.S. don't say Peugeot dealership - as
they skin you alive! based in Bedfordshire)

Thanks in advance....

Shaz

Shaz, do a forum search on Eolys & FAP & you will find loads of info re the FAP system.

The FAP system needs to know when the fuel filler cap is opened. It then looks at the fuel level before & after re-fueling & injects the correct amount of Eolys ( addative Gasoil ) into the fuel tank.

So if it is seeing the tank cap premanently open I suspect that is stopping the system from working.

If no Eolys is being injected, the FAP will gradually clog up as it won't be regenerating.

hi

i am quite sure that the ecu or whatever has to be reset so that it knows the fluid has been refilled and reset the counter to zero.

i think only peugeot or a garage with the correct peugeot diagnostics computer can do this/

try looking on the peugeotcentral forum

Thanks guys, i will try looking for someone to do that as Peugeot just charge a whole load. I dont think I could pop into one of their garages and say please can you clear the alarms as someone else has done the work needed but didnt have the correct computer to clear these alarms..... oh well i will check out that forum now.... there must loads of people on here that have the same issue!!

Please feel free to give me some advice :)

I can only tell you of my experience of owning a C5 with this engine.

I too refilled the Eolys container. The alarm message won't extinguish without being reset by either a Cit/Pug dealer or someone with the correct computer equipment.

But I had the car for a further year & the Eolys continued to be pumped despite the alarm messages.

I think you will probably need the diesel filter in the exhaust to be replaced or cleaned out.

I can get someone to swap out that diesel filter for me and I will try to find someone who has the correct the computer to clear the alarm. Where did you get the Eolys fluid from? And how much did the dealership garage charge you to clear the alarms?

The diesel filter that needs either cleaning out or changing is the particle filter in the exhaust & not the diesel fuel filter.

As far as I know Eolys is only available from Pug/Cit & possibly Ford dealers.

I never got the alarms cleared.

The only alarm that won't self clear is the 'Min level additive gasoil' .

There is a local auto electrician near me who charges about £40 to plug in his computer & read/reset the alarms, dealers charge more.

If you give me his details that would be great as I would rather go to him than Peugeot.

Thanks.

I doubt you are near me, Crewe Cheshire.

Have a look in Yellow pages, Auto Electrician, or independant Cit/Pug servicing.

Give them a call to see if they have the suitable equipment to access your cars systems.

thanks, i will look into it....

Is it possible to clean the FAP (particulate filter) and put it back in ???

That was why I suggested you do a forum search on FAP & Eolys.

All the info is there.

Here is a link to a thread with most of the info for cleaning the FAP on a C5, would expect a 406 to be similar. http://honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=39191
