I quite fancied a W124 estate on Ebay - until I saw that it had 16 previous owners, so the next owner will be owner no. 18!
I'm not so keen now!

Years ago I bought a MK2 Escort with 13 previous owners. It was pretty rough but I couldn't resist the 2.0 Pinto engine conversion it had. One morning at 2am I was woken up by something, looked out of the window and saw a couple of cretins breaking in to my car. They were making so much noise trying to keep their Metro from stalling they must have woke half the neighbourhood up. I couldn't really shout "Oi! What the 'ell do you think you're doing?", because I lived seven floors up in a high rise (taking about 2 minutes to run down seven flights of stairs), so I phoned the police. I had the great experience of watching the police car roaring down the road after them from my vantage point.
They managed to retrieve the car, minus it's passengers, with the engine still running. The police rang me up and said "Sorry sir, but's it's running a bit rough". I went to collect it, and found it drove as normal as could be expected.
I was the 14th and last lucky owner, as I scrapped the poor thing. Happy days.
