The piston in the front driver side brake caliper appears to be seized. This is causing the brake to overheat. Is this a repairable unit or is it a replacement job?

Can you not try yo free it up by using a G-clamp to push the piston back?
|
Yes, I did manage to push it in using a part of my puller set but it it is not moving freely. It is very stiff.
|
Ah in that case i'm not sure I'm afraid because I don't how easy they are to re-furb...All I can suggest is that you keep pushing it out and pushing it back in to loosen it up.
Hopefully someone more enlightened than myself will help!

It's not worth the bother stick a recon unit on 1 yr gurantee.
To strip it down pull out the piston which may have corrosion on get this re chromed and fit new seals then pressure test it too much hassle thats if you can find a seal kit.!
If you free it off it will stick later on the damage is done.

www.mx5parts sell caliper overhaul kits. MX5 front calipers are not difficult to overhaul. The piston needs to be perfectly clean and corrosion free.
