I've just read the Ultraviolet report on the Astra Club 1.6i 16v which claims an overall fuel consumption of 55mpg. Shurely shome mishtake, mishta??? Even Mrs W's 1.6 Focus, when driven like a nun on a motorway run, will only get 44mpg.

Sorry to return to this, chaps. I was hoping that one of the mods would pick it up and say "How dare you question our judgement" or say "Oops, yes, there must have been a miscalculation."
The statement in the report says:
"Overall, the Astra 1.6 averaged 55 mpg and emitting 155g/km of CO2 isn?t amongst the cheapest of cars to tax at £82.50 per year."
55 mpg and £82.50 a year tax??? Sorry, I just don't understand this at all :-(

55 mpg and £82.50 a year tax???
It's £82.50 for 6 months. £150 is the fee for 12 months.
I'll email HJ and get him to clarify.

I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that the car being reviewed is the 1.6 petrol, DD, so while you're about it, ask HJ if it's really possible to get an overall 55mpg. If this is true, I'll be looking out for one!

Just found some fuel economy figures in a Vauxhall brochure.
www.who-sells-it.com/images/catalogs/1375/pdf_5200...f
1.6i 16v 5-dr hatch (15 or 16" wheels)
Urban driving 32.8 mpg
Extra-Urban driving 52.3 mpg
Combined figure 42.8 mpg
17 or 18" wheels will be slightly lower mpg. 32.1, 50.4, & 41.5.
