Driving over mini roundabouts - old crocks
Where roundabouts are only marked by white central markings cars often cut across the markings. I sometimes will on empty roads but some drivers will drive straight over the centre in heavy traffic.
However the HC says you MUST pass round the central markings.

"188.Mini-roundabouts. Approach these in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. Remember, there is less space to manoeuvre and less time to signal. Avoid making U-turns at mini-roundabouts. Beware of others doing this."

What do you do?

Drive over it, unseatbelted, on my phone, picking my nose, lighting a cigarette and eating a sandwich.

Cue the angry mob. : )

I go all the way round it doing a full circuit.............

stevied. Yes, I saw you driving your white van yesterday over the roundabout at the bottom of my road. :-)

I say what a stupid rule. Nearly every car I see drives over the damn things. If we all went round them I reckon it would cause more accidents and certainly frustration.

I've even seen police cars go over rather than around. Besides even in a car, some mini r's are too small to negotiate on the outside without causing disruption.

I expect it's supposed to slow people down at junctions. Perhaps steel band around the things, perhaps raised 3" from the road surface, infiled with tarmac and hatched white on top?
Driving over mini roundabouts - Lud
There are a lot round here you would need a Smart to drive round.

Just ignore the damn silly things. They indicate who has priority, nothing else.
Driving over mini roundabouts - old crocks
I agree a lot can be ignored.
However at the end of my road there is one where the residential side-street comes out onto a major road. When coming home and turning right I indicate in plenty of time and take the correct line around the central marking. Usually the traffic approaching will give way as required but several times a week a car or van will totally ignore the give way and go straight across my bows leaving me to brake heavily to avoid a crash.

Hop skip and jump, right over the top of the stupid pimple.

Look at the paint, you can see which ones are driven over all the time. We have one in a local road, fairly quiet, which gives priority to an even quieter road.
You can't drive round it very well. I wondered why it was there, then a possible reason dawned on me...there'is a driving test centre not far away and, as far as I know, there are no roundabouts in this area. I wonder whether it's been put in for learners and tests.

I don't think they are to slow you down, I was under the impression that they are to ease the traffic flow from a side road by changing give way priorities, although some people don't seem to know who to give way to at a roundabout anyhow.

You forgot to add, drunk LOL.

I am ALWAYS drunk! : ) Oldcrocks, it was not me in the white van, although I am thinking of getting one as it would fit my lifestyle...

Near me is a flat (not humped at all) mini roundabout where there is provision for a road to go off to the right, but this road was never built. Nearly everyone religiously drives round the roundabout, despite the fact that they're nearly all locals ~ the roundabout is on a cul-de-sac which terminates in a doctor's surgery!
I drive straight across the roundabout.

If you drive straight over you'll probably be stopped if a Police officer (who may be in an unmarked car) sees you.

I've lived here 6 years and I've not seen a police officer yet, either on foot or in a car. Also, there was an article in the local paper about the fact that there aren't any traffic wardens either in our small seaside town and that parking on yellow lines is rife. It's a motorists' paradise!

I think the HC hovers in an ideal world - where roads are flat and uniformly wide - local councils hover slightly closer to reality and some mini-rdbts would be difficult to drive aorund smoothly. I choose my line depending on circumstance.
Driving over mini roundabouts - 1400ted
Here's ours. As far as I know, it's the only rdbt in our postal district.
The road to the left is minor and just residential. As a rat-run, it's not worth using.

I think Pat might have trouble getting a 44 tonner round it without going on the paint...I know I do in a car !
A policeman with a folding chair on the grass could achieve his targets in a day !

One in the town centre where I live is impossible to get round in any car. Everybody just drives straight over. The very occasional nitwit tries to get round by trying to reverse and do a kind of 3 point turn to avoid touching the white paint, but they usually just get ignored and the main stream bypasses them as they manoeuvre themselves into a corner.

It's complete madness, as the police admit. Probably the council had some white paint left over one day and thought it would be fun to mess up a perfectly ordinary working T-junction.

And here is a textbook example of how to cross it:

Just a small veer to the left to acknowledge it's presence...

Here is a pair of them near work..

Interesting to note some signs are red-bordered triangles and others blue circles. One good thing about them is they allow easy U-turns.

What the devil's that Google car driver been drinking? He must've gone through the shrubbery!
Driving over mini roundabouts - jc2
There's one near us at a "T" junction that is set so far to the left of the main road at the "T" that most traffic passes it on the right hand side, let alone drive round or over it.

That could have been me, SS. Several times a day sometimes.
