Austin 3litre. I transported a mint burgundy one for a classic car dealer customer in Crosby. He had it for a long time and used it as a daily car.
IIRC it had little in common with the 1800 range, only the doors being used. The drive train, I think, was C Series engine in line ( 6 pots ) and rear wheel drive. A la Westminster.

That's right Ted. It might have sold better if they'd called it an Austin Westminster - or a Wolseley.
1967 was a bad time economically to launch it, and it never really took off, despite being less ugly than the contemporary Ford Zephyr Mark IV (the one with the football-pitch bonnet).

Don't think so Avant. It was a grotesque thing with a silly long snout to fit the engine in, as grotesque as today's cosily-named 'people carriers'. No one with any sense would have bought one, only an aesthetic moron. It was huge inside but so was the 1800.
I think there was a Wolseley 1800 by the way. An ordinary 1800 was fine, even advanced by the standards of the time.

Wolseley 18/85, Lud.
My neighbour had one in an awful pea green/yellow shade. Might have looked good in black though, with that grille and the rest of the shinys.
Ted
Edit..Not the last Wuzzly though, the wedge had that title.

Wolseley 18/22 wedge
tinyurl.com/yezsquc
Suits you, Sir ?
Ted
|
Just before the 'wedge' there was a Wolseley Six, with the 18/85 body but the same six that then went into the Austin / Morris / Wolseley wedge, finally the Princess.
On reflection Lud is right - the Wolseley Six did everything that the Austin 3L could do.
I could be completely wrong here but that 2.2 engine may have been related to the 1750 Maxi engine.

Thats right, they were the E series. 1750 = E4 (only used in Maxi and Allegro)
2200 = E6 (used in landcrab, wedge, SD1(?) and Australian Marinas)

Triumph Vitesse Convertible. Burgundy, wire wheels, hood down driving around suburban SW London.
Looked in good condition but the colour didn't look quite right.

I want one. Had the use of one many moons ago when I was.............slightly shy of a licence.
Oh! happy day......................

Saw a G reg Triumph Herald 13/60 yesterday, in its original Primrose Yellow colour. In Birmingham - around the Perry Barr area.

Aston Martin DBs convertible, or Volante in Aston-speak.
White with a black roof on a 59 plate.
Parked in a street in the centre of Durham City.
Looked a lot smaller - and tastier - than these pics:

The woman I was with (who drives a new Mini Cooper S) - thought it was a Ferrari.

Forget the Vitesse. I want one of these now....................pleeeese.

Last night on the A24, in a very modest part of SW London, a Bentley with the registration DAV 1D.
Plate correctly spaced but still probably worth almost as much as the car.
|
|
Parked on the southbound M6 just south of Penrith (at the roadworks breakdown recovery encampment) a six wheeled Morris 1000 Traveller! Been there a few days now. Is it a kit or conversion of some sort or a one off?
|
|
Just seen a Ssangyong Rodius. so weird it's brilliant. More than in any other car I'm always intrigued to see what kind of person is driving it.
|
|
Saw a Bora yesterday. Not the VW, the Maserati, picking its way through the slush in Stockport.
|
I was in Stockport today heading for the station when I walked past what used to be a Rover dealers...Now a Lambo main dealer. Loads in the showroom. Spent a few minutes with my nose pressed up against the window!

FIAT Tempra estate this morning. Dark green with flat capped pensioner at the wheel.
Bravo, Sir. Nice motor.

I saw what seemed to be a very clean rust free Volvo Amazon estate car on an 'old' D plate which would make it early 70s?
|
1966 I think.
A 144 my dad bought new in '72 is still kicking about in Edinburgh
|
Thanks Humph! they were a popular tax-free buy in Cyprus in the early 60s - on the road @ just over £700 I recall
|
I delude myself into believing that I'd still like a Volvo Amazon estate. For reasons I can't begin to explain I just like them. I shall of course never do it which is almost certainly good as the reality would I'm sure, disappoint.

Honda Accord saloon on an X-plate - thats a 1981 X-plate - it was mint and not hanging around either.

A relative came yesterday. They had a Peugot 1007. Funny looking thing. 1st time ive seen one. They mentioned they hadn't seen many at all. The doors spring out , then slide back. Looks reasonably practical.
|
They had a Peugot 1007. The doors spring out then slide back. .
.........they don't necessarily do that when you you want it to - according to some of the reviews and comments I've read. And apparently they were painfully slow. Are they still available in this country?
|
AS.. they actually mentioned this what you say. When they pulled up at one of them hand washing jobs, the washer guy was knocking on window and they can't open door or something with them stood their also there is a certain way to do the operation.

Marina van today...haven't seen one for ages.
|
|
Just biked to work and inspite of the lines of anonymous snow dusted eurobox cars I passed, the one vehicle that caught my eye was...wait for it...
A pristine Forest Green Lada Riva Estate on a P plate. It was immaculate!
It looked as solid as a rock as if it was hewn from granite. I did a double take and slowed down. If it wasnt for the biting wind I'd have turned round for a better look.
It was probably perfectly at home in the cold.
|
|
Stopped in traffic and snow yeasterday, I let a yellow Lambo Mercy Largo into the traffic in front of me........it was by the main agents, though.
Reg No...DOD 7E....any footballers match this ?

triumph 2.5 estate with overdrive in doncaster today going over the new bridge,it certainly could motor
when was the last time anyone saw an estate on our roads?
And it looked mint
|
|
Earlier I briefly followed a little beige car not that much bigger then a mini, suffix R-reg, I couldn't quite see the badges etc, but it looked like a first generation Honda Civic.
|
|
Petrol and diesel at 112.5 and 115.5 per litre.
That's almost proper money, never seen that before.
|
|
Just outside Blackpool this afternoon a silver FIAT 130, G reg (1969). I don't recall seeing one of these before. It's a good looking car by any standards but for 1969 it is drop dead gorgeous. tinyurl.com/yhh6cs8
Later on, a Northbound 1800 (that's a direction, not a brand, before anyone jumps in! :-) ) on the M6. A practical good looker. Not gorgeous.

My first sighting of the facelifted VW T5 transporter van with VW's new 'Peugeot' grille and lights like on the latest Golf and Polo. Looked good.
Subject line altered as a result of a "bug"

Whilst glancing at an old tractor (motoring link!!) in a yard about half a mile West of Ingleton on the A65 I realised that there was a WHOPPING great artillery piece behind it and towering over it. Has anyone else seen it / do you know what it is?
Any neighbour within about 5 miles had better be on good terms!

In the local Asda car park a few days ago: -
An immaculate green original condition Ford E93A Popular that had escaped being turned into a hot-rod, and also a Mk 2 Cortina rally car - authentic 1960's rally transfers and 2 spare tyres on the boot.

09 Plate Ford Tansit, full electric saw it coming certainly didn't hear it coming.
