The sky was a vivid pinky red, the trees and even the pylons looked pretty. I had The Temptations running on Spotify through my aux in socket, a large V shape flock of slow moving birds crossed from right to left under the contrails left by a high flying jet. All of a sudden, I had this moment of peace, blessed peace..all was right with the world.
Anyway, am home now cooking dinner, pasta in a rich spicy tomato sauce, news is on. Carp is happening around the world, spell broken!

I work in a small town north of Chelmsford and saw the same sky from my office. Amazing sight. Very photogenic.

You know what Tack, I was only thinking the other day how few journeys are actually enjoyable now. I used to love driving but often now it is almost a chore. I suspect that has much to do with my now living where I do in the M6 corridor but somehow the occasions when you feel at one with the car and the road are becoming rarer.
There are exceptions of course, mainly in Scotland in my case.

Don't tell everyone how nice it is up here Humph, they will all be up here. Its really more remote than Siberia, colder than Canada, and when it's not snowing it's raining. :)

Tenuous motoring link but it makes a lovely change from someone moaning about something or other! I'm still musing over Passat or Octavia vRS Diesel. Heart says Octavia head says Passatt. Still, if that's all I've got to worry about...
|
Well now woodster....if you found yourself realising that this was going to be your last car instead of just your next one.....which would it be.....?
;-)
|
We had the wonderful pinky sky out here in Oxfordshire. I wonder what caused it ? Dust ? Volcano erupting in Gloucestershire ?
|
|
Funny you should mention last car. I expect to get to that stage at some time due to PD. Depending on what cars are available, my dream would be something big and powerful, gas guzzling with leather and wood and not enough figures on the speedo to tell you how faaaaast you are going (where conditions permit!) I might settle for an XK8.
|
No such luck with the sunset sadly - but looking out of my home 'office', it didn't get dark until about !7:30-ish - which is a result in my book.

The sky was a vivid pinky red
I saw it too, beautiful, made a real change after the greyness we've had for a while.

Humph....hmmmm. Last car but still constrained by current finances? Golf GTi then. But I really couldn't stand pouring all that petrol down it's neck when I can go just as quickly in a Diesel. Well, nearly - we can't get into that petrol vs Diesel debate again, it's been done to death on here. Golf just doesn't have enough boot when we go on holiday (Two little people in the rear) and I've got a couple of long trips this year including the far south of France. Octavia fits the bill. So does the Passatt I suppose but I'd get a 170bhp CR Octavia as opposed to a 140 Passatt. Go on then, what should I 'ave??
|
.....well, not a Passat. Too sort of Marks and Spencers really....
;-)

The pink light was noted in Bedfordshire as well.
Cue spooky music............

Lots of reports on 5 live about the sunset tonight.
Driving back from Cardiff over Christmas I had one of those "if only I wasn't on the M5 and had my camera handy" moments!
We had just joined the M5 near Strensham travelling north. It was about 8.30am and the sun was just rising on a clear day. Looking left are the Malvern Hills they had a sprinkling of snow and the full moon hovering above them in an inky blue sky. It looked stunning.

Very funny, 'spose you're right!
|
There are lots of moments like this for all of us to enjoy, if we all took the time to be a bit more laid back and appreciate whats around us.
A traffic jam, for example, is a bit of personal time to muse, think, ponder. You dont get much of it, so use it.

"....Heart says Octavia head says Passat...."
All I can say is your heart's in the right place. Unless you prefer a saloon to a hatch, I can't see the logic of a Passat over an Octavia.
Same mechanicals, similar residuals but the Passat is a lot more expensive, no better built and doesn't have a proper handbrake. If you need the room, the new Superb Combi can be had for about the same price as a Passat.
And of course if you spend less you can enjoy the sunset even more!

Heart and head say octavia.
|
I'm not very good at putting my hand in my pocket these days, but I think you're right and the time's right. Some reports of excess road noise in the rear so I need a test drive. If I can stomach the spending I'll let you know what I find.
|
It really felt a bit Springlike up here in 't grim Noorth. Got a train into Manchester from Stockport, tram to the bus station and then a bus home. All free on bus pass ! Loads of people thronging Piccadilly Gardens. A lot smiling and chatting. Coffee and a bun at Costa. Got the car out to go an errand.
MOT time for the bike tomorrow. So that's 5 methods of transport in 2 days, just need a boat trip now ! MOT's flexible on timing though so might give it an hour's run out before I drop it off.. he can keep it 'til it's done and I'll get the tram home.
No pressure...I'm retired too.

I was walking my dog when I saw it, looked amazing on the city skyline - never seen anything quite like that in my life before. I was going to take a picture & send it into the Daily Echo but I didn't have my phone on me, Beautiful sight.
I noticed that the soft peaceful sky didn't exactly calm the idiots down where I live. Pink one side - purple velvet on the other is enough to send you to sleep looking at it. The idiots in my city were still doing 60 in a 30 overtaking eachother - the beautiful sky obviously didn't change their wreckless behaviour.
Oh well.
|
"...didn't change their wreckless behaviour."
Shortly to be wreckful perhaps. Happens after you've been reckless.
|
Avant,
Ever heard of the three wise moneys?
See no evil, hear no evil... most of all, speak no evil. Something you need to be reminded...
"Shortly to be wreckful perhaps. Happens after you've been reckless"
I wasn't driving at all yesturday, I left the car alone all-day. If you live where I live you will know that 33% of the drivers using the stretch of road start to get extremely wreckless after 6 oclock.

Well, not quite, but an equally impressive sunrise this morning.
