Where is there a table, preferably with sortable columns, which details UK cars and their specifications (including such as power, weight, MPG, CO2 output, etc.?
|
Have you tried the backs of car magazines, or does it have to be online?
|
Online. I doubt such extensive data as these would fit on the back of a magazine!
Something like:
Make Model Dimensions Engine-size Fuel-type BHP 0-60 MPG CO2 etc.
Big
List
Of
Cars
!

Make Model Dimensions Engine-size Fuel-type BHP 0-60 MPG CO2 etc.
From what I remember, I think they do include most of these figures, and possibly more, although perhaps not dimensions. Or how about the car buyers' guides such as Parkers, and What Car IIRC?
|
What Car Feb 2009 back pages includes all of those mentioned (including dimensions) and a whole lot more, but not fuel type or engine size strangely. However I'm sure I've seen magazines that do include the latter.
EDIT: takes up 100 pages

Online, though? I don't want to have to look for a year-old copy of a printed document that can't be sorted/formatted easily! I'd be surprised if there wasn't something suitable online, but I haven't been able to find it!

Online though?
Ah yes, sorry. The What Car website allows you to look up a single model, and doesn't appear to give the information in tabular form.

That's just what happened to be lying around - presumably the current issue has the same info.
that can't be sorted/formatted easily!
No, understood.

The Parkers website appears to have comprehensive info, but again it looks like you can only view one model at a time, not put them all into a table.
|
Google "Flet News" and they have a comparison table. May/may not give the info you want
|
I wonder if HJ has considered including such a table on this website? If no one else has done it, you would think it would be bound to increase site traffic and hence please the advertisers. Would it be that difficult?
I know a 3rd party did trial something on here some years ago that allowed you to enter various criteria and it produced a list of matching vehicles.

The level of detail you are after is held on a central database administered (I think) by DVLA. If you have the budget for it and really needed this info I think a supplier like carweb (offshoot of SMMT) might be able help.

But presumably anyone can collect data from magazines/websites and put it into one big table on a web page somewhere? Is there a business opportunity here?
|
Focus, now that
data.gov.uk/
is open for business (it already has 72 datasets that match a search for "vehicle" I see) then what you want may find its way there in due course.
