After a motorway run I could smell coolant from front of car and an acrid smell from the top hose. There are no obvious leaks, and engine oil is in a clean state. The car has done 41k.
Appreciate any informed suggestions. The car is still under warranty and is going in to the main dealer soon. Cheers,
Mike.

The hose can't overheat if its full of water and I'm sure you would have known if it wasn't. The smell is probably coming from somewhere else, or if it is the hose you have'nt noticed it before. Ask the dealer to check it out.

Radiator leaking/corroded through? Had this on my old Passat albeit at 85k.
Detecting a smell from an individual component is a rare talent indeed.

Thank you for your replies. I guess there must be a coolant leak, though the coolant level appears constant. I'll let the main dealer sort it. The top radiator hose definitely smells burnt, and the smell comes off on to the fingers. Glaikit It's nice that you are still around.
