In my area I get a lot of interference from what I guess is a pirate broadcast. At home I have just got a digital radio (not yet unpacked) but in the car (02 Focus with standard radio) I can,t see a way of avoiding the rap interludes that irritate me so much. There is never any conversation just constant rap. This has lasted for months now. Any ideas?

you need to report it to ofcom

Get a Pure Highway DAB for the car. I got one for Christmas and it's triffik. I can now listen to 5 Live after dark.
find the coax lead to the aerial transmitter of the pirate station and hammer a nail straight through the coax cable, this works perfectly everytime.....
a needle will do. Cut off the end and then push it into the cable sleeve so its not visible.
a drawing pin would do it too especially if neighbour was one of those cb fanatics in 1979 with lots of burners ruining your telly picture and his cable went up the side of his house and easily gettable to
the point being you can *see* a drawing pin.
you cant see a cut off needle
I agree AE, and the chances of the pirate having access to the time domain reflectometry gear to locate the pin easily are pretty slim!
my man got the message pretty clearly thanks chaps ;-)

I might get one, 5Live is poor reception here and I get fed up in the evenings with nothing between head banging Radio 1 and Radio 2 which goes either retro alternative or melancholy after 7pm.

Lots of places doing 'refurb' ones for 40 quid or so at the moment.
For example Aria have 3 left at 34 quid plusP&P:>-

What you need to do if you can is log dates and times of the broadcast and if possible find the range where you can hear it lets say 5,10,15 mile distance all this will help ofcom track them down much faster.
Im a radio amateur and we can direction find a pirate station you can get a rough fix if you know a rough area where they are ofcom will look into it but they need information rather than it's a nuisance.
Which area/town are you in?
just look for a big ship with the skull and crossbones flying bound to find the pirates there
I used to get bursts of other transmissions on my 02 Focus as well, but they were other BBC stations. Are you sure its not a fault in the radio? IIRC, there was a software update available from Ford dealers for this?

Good grief, even car radios need software updates now?

In Clacton-on-sea (home of the clapped out vectra/3 series). Now that I think of it, it is probably only within a mile and a half of my house. Portable radio gets taken over completely. Car even when stationery seems to be intermittent. Gardeners Question Time with bursts of yo mommas a ho wicked wicked yo white boy etc etc.Got a friend at Fords will ask if radio can be upgraded. Daughters just about to walk off with this lap top so I will report it in the near future. Thanks.
