My friend wants to upgrade his cassette /radio to a CD/ radio. Is this very involved?
Thanks in anticipation.

If you fit a Ford radio/CD unit of a similar age (6000CD is readily available on ebay), it's plug and play. You need a pair of removal tools (a couple of quid in Halfords or make em yourself out of an old metal coathanger).
Ignition off,
Use the tools to undo the retaining catches, and slide the radio/cassette out.
Disconnect the two multiplugs and the antenna lead and swap them over to the new unit
Push the new unit into the dash (making sure no wires get trapped/snagged). Push back until the retaining catches click into place
Switch the ignition on, enter the code for the new unit, and you're away.
5 minute job, tops!

be aware s/h 6000cd players wear out on the volume control

I've seen two versions, bell boy. The one I had in my old Mondeo had a rotary volume knob, but the one SWMBO had in her Fiesta had -/+push button volume. Otherwise, the units were identical.
Is one of these types more prone to wear than the other?

the rotaries stop ie a proper volume knob the pot wears out so you lose control of volume sttings
had loads like this but i prefer a rotary to a push things as you have better control
