Hey all,
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 design hatchback - error code P0115 - Thermostat engine fuel tank
Friend had some work done at a local garage, but when they got the car back the error light was still illuminated. The local garage said they do not have the equipment to reset the lilght and have advised to disconnect the battery for 4 hours and this will extinguish the light. A couple of questions:
1. Is the garage talking pink fluffy dice about the 4 hour thing?
2. Is there any other way of getting rid of the light ie ignition turns, sticker over the light etc.....
3. If we do disconnect the battery, then we will require the radio code (we don't have one ) Any ideas the best place to get the radio code.
Thanks for any help offered!!!

A Vauxhall dealer will reset the light or diagnose why the light is on.... for a fee. Similarly they will get the radio code once you prove ownership for about £20. A four year old car with no VX Owners Pack? What do owners do with them? If you do have the black folder containing service record and owners manual etc the credit card sized pass card tucked in the front has several things on it including the radio code. You will need the owners manual / radio guide to show you how to put the code into radio. If yours is missing ebay usually has several Owners Packs for sale.

No code is required for the stereo in an Astra-H. It's coded to the car it's fitted to and unless divorced via Tech2 (proper term is 'to put back into delivery mode'), it will not work in another Vauxhall. Once put into delivery mode it then would have to be married up to the car it was then going to be fitted into.
As regards the fault light, it should go out of its own accord once the fault has been rectified. Sounds to me like they haven't fixed the fault or there is another fault code waiting to be read out.
The local garage said they do not have the equipment to reset the light ....
Then how did they read out the fault code? Their equipment should not only read the fault code(s), but also delete them from the ECU memory. Unless of course they did the pedal trick to read out the codes? That's a DIY method of extracting them, btw. If they did use that method, then it sounds like a Mickey Mouse set up.
As said, take it to a Vx dealer to be looked at.
