Why not tax dirty, stinky, 20 year old diesel double decker buses so much that its cheaper to run a car?
Then there will be no need for bus lanes, bus stops, bus stations {turn them into town centre car parks} and so room for a few million more cars on the roads, motorways and in town centres.
Then all the motoring taxes will be collected from millions of more people, so the individual's motoring taxes will fall, Gordon Brown will be happy, everyone's a winner?

Quite right too.
And while we are at it, lets slap huge taxes on pot noodle and kebabs so that students can support the rest of us hard working people.
|
So how would I claim the tax back as a working man?

Round here I'm often behind one of the 'White Bus Service' dreadful old smokers. It's an essential reaction to hit the recirc button as soon as one comes into view. No need for tax, but shouldn't they be obliged to do something about it?
|
You can do something about it. Take the number and report the offending vehicle(s) to the vehicle inspectorate. You will find their number in your local phone book.

"Gordon Brown will be happy"
What?
Never.
He's got a magic swagbag............it's bottomless.

Fine, if you're a car driver. If you're not, then they are a godsend no matter how environmentally unfriendly they are. Stop being so selfish.

Everyone seems to hate 'dirty diesel' buses, so why not run them on Veggie Oil:-) Less NOX,SOX and particulates? and smells like a chip shop:-)))
|
I've noticed that some of the dirtiest, stinkiest and oldest buses seem to be those used as school transport. Does the DOT or any other govt. body take responsibility for checking the overall safety of these things?

Or you could incentivise them to buy nice new smokeless buses like they have in London.
|
Emission tests on buses have shown that they generally emit the pollution equivalent of about 75 cars.
Most of us would guess that already if you have been stuck behind one for more than a few seconds.
So, bus taxation of 75 times that of a car would be fair, given the government's desire for pollution reduction "incentives".

Recently made a set of number plates for an LDV 400 minibus yesterday.MoT time again, must have passed the smoke test, as it's back trundling from village to village around for a fixed 80p fare!
Value for money, or what?!
