I recently changed the oil on my Pug 406 HDI, due to error on my part I assumed the recommended oil was Castrol Edge 0/30w(or similar).

Reading the castrol site this morning I realise the correct oil is 5/40.......

Should I change it or will it be ok for another couple of thousand miles?

Ta in advance.

As long as the oil is roughly the same spec and you don't thrash the car it shouldn't hurt.

Ta Peter for reply, dont thrash car but the cold start bit worries me...ie: 0w as opposed to 5w?

The Castrol web site says for most 406 HDI models:

Do not use 0W/5W/10W-30

I presume this is taken from Peugeot's recommendation.

I'd be reluctant to do any long, hard journies where the oil gets hot until I replaced it with the correct spec.

Pricey stuff as well!
