hello folks
how do you adjust the handbrake on these - can't see an adjuster on the cable and is taking too many notches to pull
cheers Tel
|
you clean and adjust the brakes in the drums and then your cable should be fine
entrust to garage if you cannot do this as adjusting a handbrake cable only will not cure a problem but maybe hiding a leaky cylinder/faulty adjusters/delaminated shoes/worn out shoes/week springs etc
|
Cable adjuster should be at bottom of lever-accessible from inside car-it's under the gaiter. As said above only do this after checking the brakes themselves.
|
Fully slacken off handbrake and adjust shoes manually the Ka and fiesta shoes the automatic adjusters wear you may need to replace these cheap enough.
As said do check wheel cylinders peel back seal any fluid? replace.

thanks, what do the adjusters look like under the drums. Am used to fiddling with a MKII Escort and these hae a notched wheel to click out wiht a screwdriver and you can see the shoes move out
Similar?
Cheers for all the replies

Yes fords have not changed the idea much in the last 20 yrs it works why bother.
But do take the 4x bolts off the back not the centre hub nut this is ONLY for changing the bearing damage to the bearing can happen.
|
did a ka the other month
3 of the 4 bolts sheared
i prefer the big nut off adjust shoes with two big screwdrivers wedged onto the stub and then shoes and one click at a time till drum goes on neatly no rubbing
this method like anything is dependant on all components being in good serviceable condition and handbrake hasnt already been done up to take out faulty adjusters/worn shoe(s)
|
Fords brief is the 4x bolts not the nut unless you change the bearing.
|
what do ford know if henry"s own son is best remembered for the car bearing his name?
op as been said before the nuts on the back should only be undone if you are working from a ramp and not on your back while your bum is in a puddle
back to bigtea ;-p
|
The Haynes says you can use either method. However if you do happenj to undoo the big nut then make sure you are very carefull that the bearing does not fall out asnd get dirty when you remove the drum
