Anyone had one, did you find it useful abroad outside the EU or did your UK do you fine if required to produce?

Always have one for production even in the EU in preference to a national licence. Can't imagine how you would drive in Libya or most Arabic-speaking countries. I managed to get one from the Touring Club of Lebanon when I lived in the Middle East and it worked everywhere, including the EU.

I always carry one along with my UK licence when abroad, good for translation if required and always produced unless UK licence demanded.

you dont need a IDP for Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada, all of EU, Singapore or Malysia.
I would have one handy for driving anywhere else. In some countires the more official looking documentation you have with photos the better. They wont know what they are but a gendarme may be worried you could be more important than him.

I agree with AE. Why risk problems for such a small outlay?
I had one for driving Saudi, Brunei and Libya and always obtained mine from Green Flag.

The good old PO can supply them but only at selected sites.

The RAC site says
" Counterfeit/illegal IDPs are available via the internet.
Motorists are reminded to ensure that IDPs are only purchased from officially
delegated organisations, e.g. RAC or AA in the UK."
