I am looking to buy privately a KA.
I have test drove it and there is a knocking
sound that seems to come from the wheel.
The shock absorber seems fine. I am scared it might
be some parking/suspension damage that could be costly
to repair. The car is a late 97 with 55K on the clock.
Has anyone heard of faults like this or does this seem
like accident damage?

This is probably nothing to do with your problem, but my old Fiesta which used the same engine had this problem, and it was caused by worn engine mountings allowing the engine to swing too freely in the bay. I think the main dealers fixed it for about £45. Your best bet would be to get that confirmed by a garage or main dealer though. I thought mine was suspension 'cos it was related to bumps etc. but of course it was the bumps in the road making my engine move in the bay!
