Hi All
My W reg 2.0 Vectra has a problem which at first was intermittent and is now permanent .. the ABS and TC lights are permanently on and the speedo appears dead. A mechanic friend tried to communicate with the ABS ECU with a diagnostic box but got 'no communication'. I have done a few basic things like cleaning the front wheel sensors and checking the ABS fuse but problem still persists. Searching the web for this problem suggest that it most likely to be the ABS ECU. Is this diagnosis correct and is there anything I can do to fix it (the initially intermittent nature of the fault suggested that it might be a contact problem). I also found a company that offers to rebuild the ABS ECU for £100. Does anything have any experience of this option ?
Any advice as to the quickest and cheapest way to fix this problem very welcome.
Thanks in advance

The speedo uses one of the abs/tc wheel sensors. As all 3 things are playing up, this would suggest that one of the front wheel sensors is at fault. I can't remember whether it's the offside or nearside sensor that sends the signal to the speedo.

Thanks Dave
I just swapped the front wheel sensors over (left to right and right to left) and no change in the problem i.e. all 3 things are still wrong. Normally the ABS and TC lights go out a couple of seconds after the engine starts without any car movement so unless one of the sensors is open circuit and the electronics is detecting this, I'm not sure how a bad sensor could be causing the fault. I might just put a meter on the sensors and check electrical resistance as a last confirmation of this.
Any other suggestions, please ?

Erratic operation of the abs/tc and speedo and no diag comms are symptoms of a faulty abs control module. As the car has t/c ,this will be a Bosch unit. They are usually easy to repair by one of the specialists. The unit is screwed to the hydraulic modulator and can be removed without disturbing the brake pipes.hth

Hey Ron,
I have 2.0 Vectra and just encountered the same problem with ABS TC and Speedo all dead. Any luck getting this problem resolved? Hope you can give me some hints.
Thank you

have you changed the radio for a non standard? speed signal goes to radio as well to increase radio volume when speed increases & when after market radios are fitted sometimes the speed sense wire is put to earth! Stops the speedo & puts on lights
