I knew it was a FIRE because of the date stamps on the engine block. I can see it has a carb or single point injection so it has to either be an early Punto or an Uno.
The camshaft looks identical to my dads on his 1.1 FIRE MK1 Punto.

Didn't the original Panda have a FIRE engine?
What engine is in a Seicento SX 1.1? Curious on that as my wife has one - passed it's MOT with flying colours again. Although if it was ten years old I think she'd have wanted to swap/scrap it for a FIAT 500! It can't be worth much more than £1000 on a 51 plate and 24000 miles.

Looks to me to be a pierburg monopoint injection unit...some of the cam lobes look a bit dry, problems with the oil spray bar?

Could be early Punto, but I'm having a rethink on the what's happening. That bit of plastic looks like the cambelt cover - or at least part of it. Did the belt go and break the cover?

It's got a cam lobe oil spray bar a bit like Pintos. Cams 5, 7 & 8 look a little different.
Oil starvation?

It does look a little dry..
That`s because it`s in the local scrapyard and has been there a couple of days with the lid off.
(seen it the day before - fresher looking without dust sticking to the parts. (Sorry about that, it was to be the main clue, but the phones resolution is not up to it)
It`s a Mk1 Punto - so must be over 10 yrs old.
Engine, not sure - but it`s Fiat! (I`m more into recognizing diesels.
It caught my eye in passing - so I took a quick shot. I should have taken a second locating shot of the bay - but no sign of why it was in there.
I was impressed by the cleanliness of the engine internals. That it had run all those years and likely not in the hands of an enthusiast (for oil changes) and yet was pristine inside the cam cover. A slight scuffing on the cams, but otherwise fine.
I`m really impressed with modern oils, having once seen engine internals in the same yard in the 1960`s. There were cars from the 40s and 50`s in there then. Engine rockers embedded deeply in shale.
Thanks for the interest in the `quiz` ;-)

As described and shown, likely to be 1108 FIRE of either 55 or 60 bhp.
Later 60's were 1242 FIRE which looks much the same.
Engine was hand built by Roberts - "pass the torque wrench Bob.. Sorry, I haven't got it, I think Bob has...."
Fully
Integrated
Robotised
Engine
Or something like that.
Very first (UK spec) Pandas were 903 pushrod, the 999 FIRE became an option from 1985/6 along with omega rear axle (instead of cart springs). AFAIR.
