My 2 lit TDCI will crank but not start. I then starts and runs as normal at the second attempt. Has anyone else.experienced this problem and found the solution.

It's a known problem and can be caused by a number of things. If you have no DTC error code showing via diagnostics then the latest software update is the most likely to clear the problem.

A dirty fuel filter can also cause this problem to occur.

I have just bought a similar focus tdci and i am expericening the same problem of it starting at the second attempt?

Did you find an answer to your question?

Mine was fixed by the latest engine software update. However, the car had the problem when I purchased it as a used car, it was fixed under warranty, it now starts first time ever time. See above for other possible causes.

They solved the problem on my 2.0 TDCI Focus by replaceing 2 sensors on the air flow, one was just under plastic cover on top of engine. They said if that goes the two of them have to be replaced, also it had a software update whitch has to be done when sensors are replaced.

If/when this problem occurs it's also worth checking if the steering feels heavier than usually irrespective of the steering setting (i.e. Sport, Standard, Comfort). If the steering does feel heavier, especially noticable during low speed turning, then it's likely software update will fix both the steering problem and the starting problem.

If the same problems reoccur then suspect a problem with the electronics that holds the software, you shouldn't need to keep having software updates to clear the same problem every few months.
