When driving, my speedometer goes haywire and then the gearbox starts changing up and down as if trying to search for the correct gear, one of a few results, is that when it does decide on a gear to drive in, it seems to be third only, giving me 3500 rpm at 40mph(ish!?)
So far been given conflicting info as to possible problem, but getting NO "ABS" or "Check Engine" warning lights.
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
You will need to get the codes out of the TCM (transmission module) Suspect it will be output speed sensor fault. 3rd gear is limp in mode, suspect you will also have gear ratio errors but the sensor would be my best guess at this point without the codes to go on.

I have taken it to a gearbox garage who tried to "talk" to the car, and there were no fault codes that came up. The mechanic's computer apparently "would not talk" to them, but gave the impression that there was no history and not that the TCM was bust??

Hi
Try turning the ignition on on off 3 time ending by leaving the ignition on and see if anything comes up in the display.

small problem, engine currently in bits and got gearbox ecu off. have found the part on E-bay for 30quid, though part number is PO4686707AI (my one) but the one advertised only gives the first bit PO4686, will the last 5 digits matter?????

Just put the engine back together, did the reset on the dashboard (picked up from a different post from you (Press and hold "Trip and Reset" and turn on ignition until dash does calibrate)) then reset the air con as all lights flashing (turn blower to full, turn blower direction controll to full left, and temp to cold, then press and hold "rear wiper constant and rear screen wash" until lights start to flash differently, wait till only "rear wiper constant flashes about once a seccond" then pressed it, took it for a test drive, and I havent got a clue what I did, but it works ok(touch wood & fingers crossed)!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill post again if any or the same problem occours again.

yes the last 5 do matter, the last 2 maybe not.

Cheers Merlin Tec. we are going to buy the TCS on the off chance that it is faulty, and then we have got one spare (it doesn't eat or drink). thanks again
