97 1.4 oil dipstick & rear roof antenna - ah207
Hi everyone - first time caller, long time listener (as they say). The yellow plastic thumb grip on my oil dipstick has crumbled off. So now I don't know when to stop the stick when checking the oil level. Do I need to replace the whole thing ? Or can a replacement grip be 'stuck' back on the blade ?

Second question - there is a socket at the rear of the roof with a narrower screw thread than the radio aerial socket at the front of the roof. What's the rear socket for ?

Apologies if questions seem a bit dumb. (The car is the Phase II version of the 306).

Much obliged.

I had the same problem and you need a new dipstick but be careful to get the right one. I got mine form a breakers. The chap said 'one like this' I said 'yes, how much' he said 'nothing' !!!

A result!! Otherwise about a tenner should be about right.

The socket at the back was probably a mobile phone. Watch for it having been carelessly fitted so it leaks and the roof rusting from the inside out, like wot mine's done.

Thanks for the info Steve. If I can find a flat-head screw with a 5mm thread, I'll pop it into the whole (and a quick spray of DW40) and prevent any rain water from getting in.

Thanks! I'll try to make in to a scrap-yard (or similar) in the next few days and see if I can find an undamaged dipstick. May look out for a rear seat headrest too while I'm there!
