I'm currently driving around Oz in a rented Nissan Tiida (petrol). Every time I go to fill it up the regular unleaded petrol at most of the pumps is only 91 RON grade. Should I be seeking out the sole pump on each forecourt that pumps 95 RON super unleaded, or can I presume that all petrol cars in Oz are built/tuned for the rougher stuff? Am I mis-fuelling?! Car runs OK - as well as you'd expect a 1.8 slushmatic to perform anyway. Handbook is useless... TIA,

If it runs all right and the hire company didn't specify anything, you don't need to worry.
I must say I am suffering slight pangs of envy. Especially if you are 'driving around Oz' - a fairly major enterprise - rather than just driving around IN Oz as we were last Christmas.
I seem to remember that the cheapest fuel at some petrol stations has a percentage of biofuel or methanol or something in it. My daughter and son-in-law favoured it for some ecological reason.

91 RON is standard (ie weak) unleaded in Oz, only the higher performance cars have a requirement for 94 RON. Our Holden Barina (ie Vauxhall Corsa) had a switch under the bonnet to reset the timing if switching between the two types of fuel. Unless indicated on the fuel filler cap or manual then 91 RON is fine, certainly was OK for every car I drove in Oz from our Barina, Subaru Outback, Holden Commodore V6 and V8, Ford Falcon, Toyota Camry etc.

The Toyota Carina I rented the last time I was in Oz ran perfectly on "cooking" unleaded. Never thought of putting anything else in it, even as a dedicated and unconverted diesel driver.

Many thanks for the reassurances. The car has run fine in the 2000-odd KM I've driven so far, from Brisbane northwards. Apart from the dodgy fuel gauge which loses its first quarter after a fill within 50km of the fill-up... (Which partly sparked my fuel quality worry!)
Wouldn't fancy hitting a 'roo in it though, bit tinny..!
