Hi,
The first question first; can anybody recommend a good air con specialist in Nottingham?
Second; I have had my car for about 2 years. When I first bought it, the air con was working. A month or so later, on a really hot day, I noticed it wasn't cooling as much as it should. Subsequently, I took it to Kwik Fit to get it regassed and it started working fine. I hardly used the AC at all over the autumn, winter and spring. In the summer (last year), I noticed it wasn't working. A friend of mine topped his AC up with a can from Halfords, and I asked him to put some in mine. The AC started working but only for a few days/ a week. It hasn't worked since.
I took it today to Halfords and they checked the pressure, and said there was no refrigerant in the system. I also had it topped up by them. The AC is not working, but the pressure has remained the same. Also, when AC button is pressed, the revs increase and it seems the compressor is still working.
I was wondering if someone could advise me what the problem could be, and how much it would cost to fix.
TIA

No gas in the system means you have a leak.On a 406 this is usually on the condenser rad or associated pipework. Also it is essential that the cooling fan is working correctly.Did Halfords do a proper re-gas from scratch? It is not possible to "top-up" an a/c system and make it work effectively. That is why these top-up cans are useless.hth

It is best practise to run the AC for a few minutes every week. This ensures circulation of the oil in the compressor and exercises and lubricates the seals. Regards Peter

And tell the man you've used a Halfords tin on it before he connects and seriously damages his machine(he'll charge you for repairing his machine then as well as your car).
