The engines gone, the springs went bang
sitting in a tin can
Planet Wales is blue and the Corsa`s got the flue

This is Earth control to major Rattle
get on the web and send some tittle tattle
`My mechanic` sends godspeed on to you...
And sorry for fixing your wheels on with glue
This is major Rattle in the asteroid belt
the sills have rust and clearly can be felt
and the stars shine brightly here tonight
the camchains gone the tension was too tight
Sitting in a tin can... far far away..

Go Oily........GO!!!

Where`s Rattle?
I regret to say, these ramblings are from a completely alcohol and drug free mind...
Excluding coffee of course and a bit of residual grease... ;-)

Rattle has broken down on the way to North Wales and is unable to reply.

The car's running fine. ;>)

I was just thinking.. I hope yesterdays rain storm didn`t pass over the tent..
It`s very quiet.... maybe no wireless internet within range?

( for the historical record - this is an encouraging support thread for Rattles first motorized expedition outside Manchester- otherwise known as `The Trip To The Moon`)

Do we know if he decided to drive solo, or is he learning the pain of watching others drive his pride and joy?
|
Rattle got to his destination fine. He sent an email to me. He's not had a chance to login to the site properly yet from his mobile.
He wanted to let Oilrag and others know.
|
login to the site
Do you have to log into camp sites these days ?

Do you have to log into camp sites these days ? >>
Most people now use gas now and do not need to lug logs in to camp sites.
I did know know Rattle was camp.
Did he take enough fuel to get back to backroom Earth?
p.s. Let me guess the first emailed words from Rattle to home [rtj] on landing at the moon base: "One small step for motorists, a giant leap for Rattle." ?

That's a pretty good guess, except you missed out the inevitable typo/literal/spelling mistrake. :)
|
Do you have to log into camp sites these days ?
But you have to login to this website to post. He's seen oilrag's post .
First words were "Hi" and "Using my phone" basically. And then went on to say he got there without any problems.
Let us hope he enjoys his trip and does not login in to this website too often.

Have a really good holiday Rattle. Let`s hear from you when you return
;-)
|
I'm not very good at geography, is it very far from Manchester to north Wales?
The reason I ask is because this trip seems to have been planned for several months, so I suppose it must be a long drive, what with all the preparations on the Corsa.
|
Needn't be more than about twenty miles I would have thought. Quite far enough to knacker a rattlewagen though.
I second oilrag's good wishes. Live it up Rattolo!

Funniest thread in ages.....
but only to insiders, I think this would have been moderated out of existence a few years ago. Progress, maybe
But here's a serious question, which is nearer the real world, Planet Rattle or Planet Oilrag ? :-)

Not forgetting planet X. :-)

How do you know I`m not assessing you all now ;-)

Sit up. Teachers's looking.

Jurt downloaded opera and managed to log onto hj on my phone for the first time. Car made it fine used no oil and temp guage was low all the way. Found it hard uphill though 64hhp is not enough. Total disance was 110 mikes but done 25 today. Where we are is well into north wales. Took two and a half hours. Moon landing was a sucess. Was listening to bowie when a saw this thread and it made me laugh. Had to get a complete exhaust from the catback which meant we could not set off till 12.45
|
Exhausted before you even set off?
|
Have a really good holli, Ratboy.
Don't drink all Martin's Hobgoblin.......if it's available in Brunstrom country ! Stick to a small sweet sherry every couple of days.
We all await your return with trepidation !

You been under the Punto again ? I had to do a similar job to the CBR600 yesterday. Cross brace under the seat gets battered by all sorts of road mess, the original paint on steel had finally given up the ghost after twelve and a bit years so wire brush out, bare metal and some underseal, it's not a show bike so what do I care if half the frame is silver and the exposed bit is bitumin black...
|
"Was listening to bowie when a saw this thread and it made me laugh."
Good result for me then! ;-)
|
"You been under the Punto again ?"
I should have written `residual oil` Gmac. Not grease.
To be precise, Mobil 1 from an old oil can I bought in 1966 - oiling door hinges and in particular the joint on the door stay with seems a weak spot for wear on the Mk2.
Wear in the pin ( i think there is a hidden bush too) leads to a `cracking` sound when opening the door - caused by the roller spring `pulsing` the check rod and hammering the pin as the door opens - roller going over the rod detents. As soon as the slightest wear occurs it rapidly increases and is hammered harder as the wear gap increases.
I have fitted drivers side replacements to both cars, before. The wear having occurred when using spray grease. I`ve now switched to a couple of drops of oil every few weeks in the hope that it penetrates more - and soaked and `worked` the new rods pin/bush area prior to fitting.
If it persists on the van, I may buy a new rod and grind the `detents` off the rod, leaving it so it doesn`t act as a hammer on the pin.
But so far oil seems to be working.

Everybody has gone to bed i am bored. Feel more like 86 than 26 atm. Fun seems to be the last thing on the agenda. Might leave go for a long drive tommorow while the oaps sleep off their 'tiredness'. i love driving in anglesey far too many empty straight roads. 60mph is enough to enjoy the driving. The eps steering is brilliant and it is gond round corners too. I am not going to test the 103mph stop speed though! I am dreading having to drive in manc again it just horrible.P
not sure how to make paragraqhs but it may have worked.

Sorry about typos using my nokia n85 with no 3g signal.

i wondered why the A55 was backed up for miles the other day must have been rattle in front.......is he back home yet or should we be expecting more hold-ups :-)
p.s rattle if your in the vicinity of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch give me a shout and i'll buy you a pint (two pints if you can pronounce it)

Make sure you get a chip butty from Petes Eats whilst you're near Llanberis.
|
Pete's Eats - the Lasagne is also excellent, and their spinach and chick pea curry is exceptional. Make sure you get yourself a nice pint mug for your tea as well - I have two currently sat on my desk.

Glad you are enjoying your holiday, Im a bit worried by your desire to "go for a long drive", that is 400+ miles a day and it will put Scotland within your range. Still, there is no better teacher than "miles under your wheels".
|
there is no better teacher than "miles under your wheels".
That's quite true Rattle, as many of us have pointed out to you in the past. Despite Welshlad's offer of a couple of pints, I wouldn't bother with Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch if I were you because it's only a few miles. Much better pick up your passport and cruise down to some nice village in the Var. Of course they are both easy to spell and pronounce.

>>...and it is gond round corners too..>>
Did you mean to write "it's good round corners too.." or "..it's gone round corners too.."..:-))
Anglesey is larger than many people imagine with plenty to do, whilst we always enjoy visiting some friends we have there.

I?m stepping through the door
And I?m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there?s nothing I can do
Though I?m past one hundred thousand miles
I?m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit?s dead, there?s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear....
? am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there?s nothing I can do.?

I think he must be on top of Mount Snowdon, and the phone battery is flat..
I'll get me coat.
