I have had my engine replaced on my lpg combo van it is a 1.4xep engine , new engine is 1.4 xep as well garage that has replaced engine has had to use my inlet manifold as it is LPG and now there is a problem with starting ,it has no ecu light on dashboard and garage dont seem to know why it will not start . Has anyone any ideas what the problem might be .
|
I must add that when my van went in to garage it's old engine was running and the guy from there drove it to another workshop so he knew the van was in working order apart from the noise from the con rod ,that being the reason for getting the engine replaced .
all he has done is remove my engine swap inlet manifold and then put new engine in the van and conect everything up, then on trying to start he discovers that the engine managment light on the dash is no longer working , he has rechecked all the conections but still the van is a non starter it turns over but will not fire.

sounds like he has missed a wire somewhere probabbly a earth wire onto the manifold/ecu
|
Can having the battery disconnected all week do anything to the engine management system and now it can't work properly or is that not what would happen, come on guys there must be a reason it is not working now < i would also like to add the engine was replaced by a mechanic so you would think he would know what he was doing < well thats what i thought when i took it to his garage >
{Post amended where necessary. no need to SHOUT!}

Probably best to get its fault codes read. The garage which replaced the engine really should have already done this basic check. How did you souce the new engine? was it a runner, did it come complete with engine managment ecu.
|
I might be wrong, but aren't modern Vauxhalls stuffed full of components that have to be coded into the ECU when changed?
It might be something on the new engine isn't coded into the ECU - probably best if you approach your local Vauxhall main dealer for a definitive answer.

engin was out of an 07 tigra 1,4 xep witch was meant to be a straight swap except for the inlet manifold which they had to use mine as it is lpg , the engin came with starter altinator all the sensors and coil pack so it was meant to be simple , seems like the ony thing that was simple may be the machanic
|
the engin came with starter altinator all the sensors and coil pack
Did it also come with the ecu?
|
Then that may well be the problem. Pretty sure the ecu and engine need to be married together. Ask Vauxhall if there is a way to marry the new engine to your existing ecu. You will need the relevant security codes from the Car Pass to do so. Not sure if you need the donor car details as well though.
Topbloke (or anyone else) do you happen to know?

the machanic that is doing my van now tells me it wont start as it is an imobiliser problem, as there is no spark and no fuel getting through , does that sound about right as I am not sure whats going on with him anymore.
|
More than likely. As mentioned above the replacement engine needs pairing up to the original ecu, or you need the ecu from the same car that the engine came from.
|
garage has told me they have had an sparky look at van now and he says the ecu is knackered , can this just happen or does there have to be a reason for this as van worked ok before apart from bent conrod ,no ecu problems or lights on ,

How did the original engine bend a con-rod? Has it been through a flood?

I am still having no joy with this van is there anyone out there who knows anything about replacing a like for like engine and what is the problems one could come up against , as i have said old engine1.4 xep with lpg new engine 1.4 xep without lpg , they have replaced the engine using my inlet manifold off old engine as it has the lpg system on it , but now it turns over but no EML on dash no oil light on dash ,no exhaust light on dash all other dash lights are ok .
