Why are some, so trusting, even gullible of others, when it comes to believing advertisements that involves paying someone else upfront to do something for you?
Pay someone for a service before you receive it?
I don't think so, Well, not here anyway!

160 people scammed at 100 quid a piece is 3 million quid because not everyone complains
what a load of tosh
you missed the word GREED out tron,no scam would work without greed
just like there would be no burglaries if people didnt buy stolen goods

I used to get called by these companies every single time I sold a car in the Autotrader back in the days before the internet existed.
|
I actually put "NO CANVASSERS" on the bottom of ads now. The one or two who try it on anyway get both barrels down the phone. I don't believe in shouting at people normally, but if they call me, and expressly ignore my wishes, they do so at their own risk.
When we sold the Scenic on Autotrader, I note that they have a free service now where they direct your calls through a number which automatically bars known numbers for these people. It worked faultlessly in that case.
I once listened to a sales spiel by one of these people, and it's so full of sales vaguery, ambiguity and evasiveness that I couldn't believe anyone ever fell for it.
Cheers

I know the feeling. Every time I sell a car I get these leeches calling, they have no chance of selling to me as I am already mad that they have called and said "is the xxxxx still for sale", and then go on to say they are not actually a buyer !
|
I've only had this once. I listened to the spiel - it took quite a while - and at the end I offered them the following deal:
You sell the car for me for what I'm asking, plus whatever commision you'd like to charge and I'll pay you that commision AFTER the sale.
They don't like you wasting their time. ;>)

The best fun you can have( if involved in something else mundane) is to let them go thro all the spiel and keep asking facile questions. The more time that you can occupy them for, the less time they have to irritate other people. Sitting in the bathroom with the cordless can alleviate boredom.
Works well with any direct sales cold calling people. However be prepared for a couple of follow up silent calls, or an earful of abuse when they final figure what is going on!

IMO, a fuller and better article is right here on HJ's website, giving you advice on how to deal with these scammers.
